I did this piece last year as well, but this season I decided to do it earlier! So here you go, my projections for who I believe will win certain awards within the league. This year will include Gold Glovers as well.

AL Cy Young: Justin Verlander

NL Cy Young: Clayton Kershaw

For Verlander, he was in the running for the 2016 MLB Cy Young after a huge comeback year in Detroit. He actually got more first place votes than the winner Rick Porcello. But Porcello had more overall votes. He is going into a season where he will be 34 years old, but that shouldn’t affect him. 2017 Projections: 19-7 W-L, 2.91 ERA, 261 Strikeouts, 0.960 WHIP

Now over to Clayton Kershaw, who is arguably the best pitcher in baseball. He had an injury-riddled season in 2016, but is expected to bounce back in 2017. Kershaw is still easily the ace of the team and if injuries don’t hold him back, he can get this award. Last year, he was a contender for the award almost all of last season, even with missing many starts. 2017 Projections: 20-6 W-L, 2.23 ERA, 290 Strikeouts, 0.728 WHIP

AL Most Valuable Player: Mike Trout

NL Most Valuable Player: Yoenis Cespedes

Trout has to be the favorite for this award once again, I mean this guy is incredible. Other guys who could win the award would be Mookie Betts or even Francisco Lindor, but Trout would have to be the number one favorite. Trout is the winner of last year’s award and has already won a few MVP’s in his six season career. 2017 Projections: .335 AVG, 42 HR, 117 RBI

Over to a guy who may not be a big pick for this award, Mets Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes is a fantastic power hitter and a very productive guy for the New York Mets. A couple other guys to consider are reigning MVP Kris Bryant of the Cubs and the 2015 MVP Bryce Harper, or even Bryce’s teammate in D.C, Daniel Murphy. 2017 Projections: .327 AVG, 46 HR, 129 RBI

AL Rookie of the Year: Andrew Benintendi

NL Rookie of the Year: Dansby Swanson

Benintendi seems poised for a breakout in Boston this year, check out my article on Four Potential Breakout Studs in the 2017 Season here: https://sparksports.io/four-potential-breakout-stars-in-the-2017-mlb-season/  ….as both of my ROY picks are featured in it. Benintendi is in an outfield that could be one of the best in the league alongside Betts and Bradley Jr. 2017 Projections: .283 AVG, 11 HR, 73 RBI

Now over to former Vanderbilt SS, Former #1 Overall Pick, and Braves stud shortstop, Dansby Swanson. Swanson had a really good stint in the big leagues in 2017 with the Braves in the last month or so of the season. He’s really another up and coming shortstop in the league as there are so many great ones under 25 and he will be one of them. 2017 Projections: .275 AVG, 14 HR, 75 RBI

Another baseball season began! Here’s to a whole summer of fun! Hope that everyone enjoys the season and article, comment below who you think is poised to win major awards in 2017!
