The Cardinals made their second signing of the 2016 offseason, this time making a large splash in landing Dexter Fowler, who had spent his last couple seasons in Chicago. The Cubs signed both John Lackey and Jason Heyward last offseason, both former Cardinals. Now, a little taste of revenge with the Cardinals landing Dexter Fowler.
He’s played for Chicago, Colorado, and Houston in his 9 year career. He made his first All-Star game in 2016 with the Cubbies.
Fowler will replace Brandon Moss and Matt Holliday, who in 890 At Bats had a combined WAR of 2.1, while Dexter Fowler, in over 500 ABs at a WAR of 4.7, big upgrade for Cards. Last season, his slash line was .276/.393/.447, pretty good in comparison to Holliday/Moss. He hit 13 home runs and had 48 RBIs, he did only play 125 games.
Nice signing for the Cardinals, expect Fowler to be a good fit in St.Louis. Lots of good, even juicier Cardinals/Cubs games this season and in the future. Looks like he will be the next CF and leadoff hitter in St.Louis.
Great scoop by Frank. Fowler to Cardinals, pending physical. https://t.co/t0nKHyebvs
