It was reported on Wednesday night that Carlos Martinez agreed to a 5 year, reported $51 million contract extension with Cardinals. Martinez is only 25 and is already the pitching ace of the storied Cardinals franchise right now. Many are saying that this move is very smart for the Cardinals, just an all around productive and progressive move by the club.

This was reported by multiple news outlets, including the Jon Heyman (FanRag Sports) tweet above. The Cardinals were expected to make a move like this with Martinez and it is a good deal when it comes to value on both sides. Among the many deals this offseason, this probably the fairest deal we have seen, but it is all based on projections.

In just two seasons a full-time starter, Martinez has become the best starter on the Cards staff. Two straight seasons with an ERA of under 3.05. He has been great for them, and this deal, if it runs its course, will go up until he is 30 years old.

Expected to be announced by the club tomorrow:
