Kansas City Royals pitcher, Yordano Ventura, was killed Sunday morning in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. Ventura’s teammates and friends are mourning on Twitter.

Yordano Ventura was signed as an amateur free agent by the Royals in 2008. He made his debut on September 17, 2013 against the Cleveland Indians, Ventura pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out three.

Ventura appeared in 94 games, 93 starts, where he posted a record of 38-31 with 3.89 ERA, and 470 strikeouts across 547.2 innings. Ventura had a 7.72 K/9 ratio, and a 3.47 BB/9 ratio.

In a start at the end of last September, Ventura mourned the loss of friends Jose Fernandez, and Oscar Tavares by writing “16 RIP JF” and “12 RIP OT” on his cap.
