Jules Bianchi was a French motor racing driver who drove for Marussia F1 in the FIA Formula One World Championship. Bianchi had previously raced in Formula Renault 3.5, GP2 and Formula Three and was a Ferrari Driver Academy member.
Even though Formula One drivers have some on-track rivalries they have to discuss, on Thursday at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the drivers all together gave a solemn homage for Jules Bianchi.
Bianchi passed away on Friday, which was the result of the head injuries he had from his crash in last October, which was at the Japanese Grand Prix. It was the first time someone has had a fatal race-related crash since 1994, which was when Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger died at the San Marino Grand Prix.
It also unified the paddock at the Hungaroring, with drivers pausing to remember a highly skilled, audacious driver whose promising career ended at the age of 25.
Fernando Alonso knew him well, from his time at Ferrari, where Bianchi progressed through the ranks as a test driver.
Also, he had developed a pretty tight bond with this young star Bianchi.
“Obviously we (spent) a lot of time together outside the track. I take those memories,” Alonso stated, his eyes watering as he spoke in the McLaren motorhome. “I will always have him in my heart … We shared the track together and he’s not (here) anymore.”
“I spent time with him for three years. We did some training camps together, some good rides on the bicycle, football matches, playing cards,” he said. “I spent one week in Lanzarote training camp in 2012, we were roommates. Very strong feeling now, a very sad moment.”
French driver Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa, who both attended the funeral in Bianchi’s hometown of Nice on Tuesday, spoke with heartfelt emotion.
“It was so difficult to be there in the church, to understand what’s happened. So sad,” said Massa, who helped to carry Bianchi’s coffin. “I’m sure he’s looking at us, from whatever place he is. He was an amazing boy and a fantastic driver.”
Its a sad incident, but something we can all appreciate. Someone who loved a sport as much as he did. Why not? Think about the good times.
His driving has been seen to be impeccable. People were seeing this young prodigy grow. Hopefully someone can do something in his honor.
