Now that the regular season is over, yet another season for the New York Knicks that has ended without a trip to the postseason. The Knicks have not made it to the playoffs since the 2012-2013 season, when they lost to the Indiana Pacers in game six of the second round. After going 31-51 in the 2016-2017 season, a season filled with distractions and disagreements between players and management.
General Manager Phil Jackson had some interesting words in a press conference about Carmelo Anthony. He said, “I think that the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere he can win or chase that championship.”
Carmelo was quick to respond to Jackson’s comments. In an Instagram post featuring a photo from the Great Gatsby, with the caption, “Really.” The caption also contains two laughing emojis. You can see the post below.
Carmelo signed a 4yr/$24 million deal in 2014. He his owed $26 million in 2017 and has an early termination option in 2018 when he could possibly be owed $28 million. The Knicks are to have been said they are still looking to trade Anthony this offseason.
In seven seasons in New York, Anthony has averaged 24.7 PPG, 44% FG. The down side is he has not played a full season since his rookie season. If he is traded, he has a no trade clause and will most likely keep that in place unless it is a move to a title contender.
