The 3rd College Football Playoff is set to take place in late December, with semifinal games taking place on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) and the CFP National Championship Game taking place on January 9th. The four teams selected are: No.1 Alabama (13-0), No.2 Clemson (12-1), No.3 Ohio State (11-1), No.4 Washington (12-1), while the first 2 teams out are Big Ten teams: Michigan (10-2) and Penn State (11-2).
Penn State and Michigan both had a chance at that top four spot, but just couldn’t make it.
Penn State, who won the Big Ten Championship game, will play in the Rose Bowl against USC, while Michigan will play vs. Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Penn State lost to Michigan and Pittsburgh, while Michigan lost to Ohio State and Iowa. Those two teams could have easily been in top 4.
Predictions for CFP:
Fiesta Bowl: No.2 Clemson Tigers vs. No.3 Ohio State Buckeyes – This is an intriguing matchup. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson has been exceptional in his tenure with Clemson. His weapons include Scott, Cain, Williams, and Renfroe. However, JT Barrett has made defenses confused all throughout the season. This matchup will come down to defense.
Players to Watch: Deshaun Watson (CLEM), Malik Hooker (OSU)
Final Score Projection: 31-27 Clemson wins
Peach Bowl: No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. No.4 Washington Huskies – This is an even more interesting matchup. Saban’s defending champ Tide go up against a Washington team that was counted out from the beginning. Jake Browning has had a great sophomore campaign. Of course, ‘Bama has had great play on both sides of the ball. They dominated Michigan State last season in the CFP and lost in 2014 to OSU in CFP. They are the only team to make it to the CFP all three seasons.
Players to Watch: John Ross (WASH) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (ALA)
Final Score Projection: 49-21 Alabama wins
Who’s ready for a great bowl season?
