The Dallas Cowboys have traded for Bills quarterback Matt Cassel. The deal was announced late Tuesday afternoon.  The Cowboys reportedly swapped their 5th round pick for the Bills 7th round pick and quarterback Matt Cassel in the deal.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said “you won’t see a more gifted passer than Brandon Weeden”  ,well even while saying that Jerry Jones pulled the trigger on a move to bring Cassel to Dallas.

There were very limited options in free agency for the Cowboys. Matt Flynn and Christian Ponder were the best available options on the open market, so the Cowboys opted to trade for a better more successful quarterback in Cassel.

By bringing Cassel in it lights a little bit of a fire under Brandon Weeden who now has legit competition for the starting job. Weeden is 31 and owns a 56.4% completion percentage and has thrown 27 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in his career. Cassel is 33 and owns a 59.0% completion percentage and has 96 touchdowns and 70 interceptions in his career.
