The noise surrounding this matchup began with comments made by Greg Hardy earlier this week who hasn’t played in a regular season game in over a year. The defensive end made a comment regarding Tom Brady’s wife but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones eventually defended Hardy. On top of the all the injuries, the last thing the Cowboys needed at this point in the season was more publicity. Let us take a look at the game of the week for week 5.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski’s infamous “Gronk Spike”
The 3-0 Pats travel to AT&T Stadium fresh off a bye week and look to remain undefeated. The 38 year old Tom Brady has thrown nine total touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first three weeks of the season with four of those scores going to Rob Gronkowski. A surprise star for the Patriots offense however is running back Dion Lewis. He has managed to average 4.9 yards a carry so far this year and contract extension talks have already begun. New England’s offense ranks first in the league with 446.3 yards per game with 359.3 of those yards being passing. The defending champs are a heavy favorite to win this match up.
Wide Receiver Terrance Williams hauls in game tying touchdown last week
The injury riddled Cowboys are at home after a tough road loss last week. The defense will need to continue to step up in the absence of Tony Romo and Dez Bryant. The returns of Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain from suspensions should help with trying to slow down Tom Brady. Last week against the Saints, quarterback Brandon Weeden played great and totaled 246 yards with no interceptions and threw a touchdown to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys continue to ride their running backs by committee but stated that Joseph Randle is still the starter. Starting wide receiver Terrance Williams needs to show improvement and has struggled with the asbence of Romo. Williams has totaled 12 catches for 193 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas must stick to the running game in this one if they want to have a chance to keep up.
Madden 16 Simulation
In all five simulations, the New England Patriots came out on top and put up more than 20 points and dominated on every side of the ball. Due to injuries, this game was not as close as it normally would be if some of the Cowboys starters were healthy. Madden predicted correctly on this one and I got the Patriots moving on to 4-0.
Tune in @ 4:25 ET on October 11th to catch the game of the week!
In this week five matchup, I got the defending champs winning and dominating. The Cowboys defense will show dominance in flashes early but these will eventually diminish. Tom Brady will account for four touchdowns with two of them being to Rob Gronkowski. The Cowboys offense will continue to struggle but running back Joseph Randle will run one in for a score.
New England Patriots 37
Dallas Cowboys 19
