With Andrew Luck out with an injury, back up Matt Hasselbeck led the Indianapolis Colts to a victory over the Texans in Houston on Thursday night by a score of 27-20 in an entertaining division match up.
The Colts improve to 3-2, with all three wins in the division. The Texans fall to 1-4.
All of the players that scored points for the Colts Thursday night are age 32 or older. Hasselbeck had 213 yards passing, and 2 touchdowns to receiver Andre Johnson who tallied 6 total catches for 77 yards. Frank Gore looked like he did for so many years for the 49ers with 98 yards rushing and a touchdown. Adam Vinatieri added 2 field goals for Indianapolis, who is the oldest team in the NFL.
Ryan Mallett started at quarterback for Houston and moved the team down the field on their first series but then threw an interception that lead to a Colts field goal. Mallett led a few more drives before being hit illegally by Sio Moore and leaving the game. Brian Hoyer would enter, and Mallett would not return.
Hoyer looked good, throwing for 312 yards and two touchdowns. One of his touchdown throws came at the end of the first half on a 42 yard Hail Mary throw to Jaelen Strong to put the game at 13-10 Colts at the break. His one interception was on a terrible throw to the deep middle however, and it ended the Texans’ chances late in the game. Both QB’s found receiver DeAndre Hopkins often, Hopkins had 11 catches for 169 yards.
Mike Adams had 2 interceptions for the Colts. T.Y. Hilton caught 5 footballs for 88 yards, also in the winning effort.
Strong had two touchdowns for the Texans on two receptions, and Arian Foster ended the day with 41 yards rushing and 77 yards receiving on 9 catches.
