Chelsea in control?

Barclays Premier League “super-team” Chelsea faced Swansea during their first match of the BPL season. It was surprising to see that the reigning champions, Chelsea, were unable to take control of the game. The end result ended as a 2-2 draw with Swansea equalizing the game with a penalty.

People have a lot of high expectations for Chelsea since they finished out last season in first place. A team like Swansea who has never been consistent or won any major trophies logically shouldn’t be able to keep up with a team like Chelsea, but the tides have changed.

Maybe we’ll be seeing more from Swansea this season after analyzing their performance during the match against Chelsea one could say that they were almost equals. For all you Swansea fans the fact is they played a great game considering the fact that Chelsea did not hold back and also played an exceptional game.

There were two mistakes made by both sides during this 90-minute matchup.  Federico Fernandez accidentally scored an own goal after Swansea managed to equalize the score to 1-1, putting Chelsea into the lead 2-1. Luckily, after a beautiful pass from the Swansea midfield, Bafetimbi Gomis showed great control over the ball dodging the Belgium goalkeeper, but resulting in the Belgian, Courtois, to tackle Gomis’s legs.

After a smooth penalty taken by Gomis the score was all evened up and finally the last whistle blew for full time and the score ended 2-2. Swansea fans have been waiting for this day and as of today fans have high hopes in Swansea this season.

Swansea hasn’t had an exciting season since Michu was on top of the scoring charts in 2012, but if they stay strong and aggressive against their opponents than maybe they will have a chance to move further up in the tables.

On the other hand it must be disappointing for Chelsea fans to see their beloved Blues drawing to a team who are not “at their level”, but they were proven wrong today.

Soccer is about the excitement of winning games your not supposed win, teams coming out of the dirt and winning gold, and players who turn from trash to all stars in a matter of months. It isn’t about the richest or most skilled teams winning, because sometimes they don’t, but the team who wants it the most and plays the hardest for their victories.
