For the third time in four years, Real Madrid, this year’s La Liga champions, have lifted the UEFA Champions League Trophy, while also repeating as champions. Led by the historical play of Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid defeated Juventus (Italy), 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Cardiff, Wales.
Ronaldo scored early with a 20′ goal, a goal joining him with Alfredo Di Stefano, as the only other player to score in at least three UEFA Champions League Final/European Cup finals. He also went on to score a second goal in the 64′, which was his 600th career goal at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid dominated the game from start to finish. Cristiano Ronaldo proved that he is the greatest player in football history.
The lone bright spot for Juventus, was when Mario Mandzukic scored on a bicycle kick to tie the game towards halftime. This goal was possibly the goal of the tournament.
This year’s tournament was one of the highest scoring in history. Real Madrid proved why they are the best team in Europe and will look to three-peat next year.
