There are many rivalries in sports ,but some of them are just so intense and fun to watch that everyone knows about it whether they are a fan of sports or not.  Here are the top 10 sports rivalries of the modern era:



10.  Ronda Rousey vs anyone who dares step in the octagon with her.  

It has been established that Ronda Rousey is the greatest female fighter the sport has to offer.  In her short tenure in the UFC there has never been an opponent to even come close to lasting even a round with her.  When Ronda steps in the octagon she has one thing on her mind and that is to destroy ,and oh boy does she ever.  She is 12-0 in here career and has won every bout by either TKO or submission.  Many have tried and all have failed.  There have been different tactics going into a fight such as trash talking, intense training, and counter attacks ,but all have failed come fight night.  Whenever Ronda fights it is known by virtually all sports fans who all hear and watch Ronda everyday.


9.  Bruins vs Canadiens 

The Bruins and Canadiens have faced each other more times than any other teams in NHL history.  When these two team meet there is a guarantee punches will be thrown.  These two teams absolutely despise one another and every time they step on the ice it shows.  Since hockey is arguably one of if not the most physical sports out there teams are allowed to legitimately fight one another on the ice during a game.  Over the many games these two teams have played virtually  all have been exciting making it one of the better rivalries in sports.



8.  LeBron James vs The San Antonio Spurs 

This is honestly one of the best rivalries in all of sports.  Basketball is the number two most popular sport right now and when the best player in the league squares off against one of the best trios and coaching combinations sparks will fly.  LeBron has been arguably the best player in the league for some time now and has appeared in six straight finals winning two of those six.  One of the teams that defeated LeBron James who was a member of the Miami Heat at that time was The San Antonio Spurs.  LeBron and the Heat defeated the Spurs in the 2013 NBA finals in one of the most exciting NBA finals in recent years.  The following year the Heat and Spurs met again in the Finals this time it was the Spurs coming out on top.  Following the 2014 finals loss LeBron went home to Cleveland and took the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in his first year back with the team.  The Spurs made some key off season moves to improve their team greatly.    The Spurs and Cavs entering the new season are two of the teams favorited to make it to the big dance.  If the teams were to meet again in the finals it would be the third time in four years the two met in the finals.

7.  The Dallas Cowboys vs the NFL

The Cowboys are Americas team always have been always will be.  If you are looking for soap opera in sports the Dallas Cowboys are team to watch.  The Cowboys own five Superbowl championships, are the most valuable team in all of sports, and have the most nationally televised games in the NFL.  Week in and week out the team is always in the news and are the most talked about team in the game of football.  When they square off  peoples eyes are always glued on the Dallas Cowboys.  They have their triumphant victories ,but also have their uncomprehending losses.  No matter how you view football the Dallas Cowboys are always center stage.


6.  Auburn vs Alabama 

The game called the Iron Bowl is one of the best regular season games college football has to offer.  When Auburn and Alabama line up fans everywhere know they are in for a treat.  These two teams absolutely hate each other and it shows on the field.  From dramatic wins to incredible upsets the Iron Bowl never fails to leave a special place in the hearts of football fans everywhere.  Alabama currently holds the lead of 43-35-1.  The two square off again November 28th.



5.  Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady 

Since the 21st century their has not been a more meaningful rivalry in terms QB vs QB than of Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning.  Every time these two square off football fans everywhere watch closely to try to attempt to  pick a side.  weather it be a preseason game, a regular season game, or a playoff game these two always put on a show when they take the field.  As of now Brady has the edge over Manning in every major category except yards per pass.



4. Duke vs North Carolina 

When Duke and North Carolina take the court all sports fans immediately turn on the game to watch college basketballs premier rivalry .  One huge aspect in the rivalry is that the two schools are located only 10 MILES APART from each other making this game a personal one for the schools, players, coaches, and fans.  Fans everywhere are almost guaranteed a nail bitter every time the teams square off.    Aside from the fact that the two schools are close to each other both schools are ranked in the top 25 virtually each year which gives the game even more importance.

3.  The Los Angeles Lakers vs the Boston Celtics

The Lakers and Celtics are the two most storied franchises in professional basketball and always play their hearts out on the court.  The two teams have met in the finals on 12 separate occasions with Boston owning the edge winning nine .  When one team is good the other is usually just as good. This has been proven in  the many years the teams have squared off against each other.  Each team has had their fair share of hall of fame players ranging from Magic Johnson and Larry Bird to Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garrett.  Both teams have a surplus of young talent and should be very competitive again in a short time.  No matter how good the teams are at a particular point in time every time the two square fans of the game are always in for a good match up.



2.  FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid

This is arguably the biggest sports rivalry in the world.  When these two meet it is more than a match.  There is history, cheers, tears, and passion all put in one game of soccer.  These are the two most historic soccer clubs in Spain and have combined to win  over 5o La Liga tiles and more than 10 European cups.  Aside from that both teams feature the two best players in the game Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo  in addition to those players each teams have great supporting casts which include Neymar, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema.  There are hard tackles, fouls, and calls throughout each match played between the two.  This is the best game the worlds sport has to offer.



1.  The New York Yankees vs The Boston Red Sox 

There is no doubt that the Yankees vs the Red Sox is the best rivalry in all of sports.  When these two teams meet it turns from a game of baseball to a grudge match.  Once the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees the two teams had a hatred for each other in every regard.  words, punches, and hatred will be exchanged between the two teams whenever they step on the baseball diamond.
