The final four teams are set for the UEFA Champions League trophy. Real Madrid (Spain), Juventus (Italy), Atletico Madrid (Spain), and Monaco (France), are the teams set to face off in May.
Real Madrid (Spain) vs. Bayern Munich (Germany)
Real Madrid, defending champions, defeated Bayern Munich in both legs of the quarterfinals. They advance on a 6-3 aggregate score. In the first leg Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in UEFA history to score 100 goals. He followed that performance with a hat-trick in the second leg to lead Real Madrid.
The second leg ended with a little bit of controversy. Arturo Vidal of Bayern was sent off 84′ minute, after receiving his second yellow card. This came while Bayern was leading 2-1 and tied on aggregate. Real Madrid went on to score three goals in extra time, Ronaldo netting two, securing their place in the semifinals.
AS Monaco (France) vs. Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
Monaco, who sit first in Ligue 1, can score fast, and put their opponents on the ropes early in games. They advanced on a 6-3 aggregate led by their young superstar, Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe has scored five goals in seven matches played. He is also a player that is on a lot of top tier European club’s wish list this upcoming summer.
Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is the clubs leading scorer in the tournament, could not get anything going to help his team. Dortmund always seemed to be playing from behind in both games.
Barcalona (Spain) vs. Juventus (Italy)
Barcelona was defeated in the quarterfinals for second straight year. This year they were beaten by Italy’s top team, Juventus. Juventus advances on a 3-0 aggregate score. Game one saw Juventus get two goals from Paulo Dybala and one from Giorgio Chiellini. Game two ended in a 0-0 draw.
After making the final in 2014-2015 season, Juventus lost in the round of sixteen the following year. They are looking very strong, defeating one of the world’s best player and team.
Leicester City (England) vs. Atletico Madrid (Spain)
Antione Greizmann and Atletico Madrid, won game one 1-0 and then had 1-1 draw in game two. This officially ends the dream run of Leicester City. After winning the Barclays Premier League last year, they have struggled in the Premier League, but played well in the Champions League this season.
Atletico is looking to make the final for the second straight year. They lost last year to Real Madrid in a classic of a game. Tied 1-1 through extra time, the game went to penalties where Real Madrid won 5-3.
