World Wrestling Entertainment has a wonderful problem right now. They have too much talent. The WWE has two main shows in Raw and Smackdown Live, with those shows being three hours and two hours long respectively.
They also have 205 Live, Main Event, NXT, and two pay-per-views a month. They still don’t have enough time to showcase all of the amazing talent on their roster.
They are doing a pretty good job at show casing their major talent with a few exceptions (cough Sami Zayn).
However, there are so many other talented wrestlers on the roster that don’t get enough TV time. Luke Harper’s stock couldn’t be higher during the Randy Orton/Bray Wyatt feud, but he hasn’t been seen in awhile.
Dolph Ziggler is actually turning this problem into his character development in the past episode of Smackdown Live. Dolph came out to several times to the themes and entrance packages of other superstars such as John Cena, Naomi, and Ultimate Warrior.
His angle is that you have to have a special gimmick in order to receive the TV time that he feels he deserves.
Rusev hit on this point during his feud with John Cena earlier. While he did have a video package prior to his return to Smackdown Live, nothing became of it. He said
that he wants a championship match or he won’t return.
He returned, and he never got a championship match. He came back and was shoved into a “Flag Match” feud
with John Cena, that he lost. Then he was pushed into a feud with Randy Orton, that he lost.
Raw isn’t safe from this either. The women’s division consists of Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, and an injured Bayley. Mickey James and Emma had a few back stagesegments and a match, but Mickey went back to not being seen.
Emma did use her gimmick of hashtags in order to get herself inserted into a 4-way for the women’s title match. Once Bayley comes back, and now that it was just announced that Asuka will be coming to Raw too, I doubt Emma will see much TV time. Maybe she can have some dark matches on Twitter or Facebook Live though.
I’m sure WWE will try something to fix it. They already use Main Event as a way to showcase all of the mid-card talent that they can’t fit on Raw or Smackdown.
My concern is with all of the great talent in NXT Aleister Black, Drew McIntyre, Kassius Ohno, Hideo Itami, and of course Adam Cole BAYBAY, how will WWE fit everyone?
There are going to be some people who have to get cut from the roster. They have too many talented individuals, but not enough screen time for everyone who deserves it. (Some people might even benefit greatly from being released and working Ring of Honor or New Japan… Dolph, Luke Harper, Konnor and Viktor, and Apollo Crews.)
Either way, I’m sure every company in the world wishes they had too much talent. This is a good thing. WWE has created a good product here, but now they just need to fine tune it a little bit in order to best present it to us.
***Writer’s note*** Also if Undertaker and Cena could face each other at
Wrestlemania, that’d be great too.
